Some of the lies about health and fitness are not really untruths. Exercise and each person's body has different reactions. Because each person's body reacts differently to exercise what is true for you may not be true for someone else. On a case by case basis everyone has to deal with questionable truths and information. You never know what may be uncovered by doing some research, so ideally you should take the time to research and learn. Here is some solidly researched information about health and fitness, and what is true and maybe... less than true.

One interesting thing often heard about swimming is that it is a great way to lose weight. This is in no way true. Swimming has many benefits but losing pounds isn't one of them. The reason for this is because as you are swimming the water is doing the work to support your body weight (called buoyancy) which basically means you aren't getting the workout you think you are or that you might if you were running or jogging long distances. There is a misleading perception bordering on mythical concerning over-exertion during workouts. The thinking is that if you seem to feel all right while you are exercising, then you are not doing too much. Even if your workout isn't a hard one you will still feel some benefits in a day or two usually. What this describes is someone who's been inactive for a while and decides they need to hit the gym with gusto to get fit in a hurry, they often feel sore and give up shortly after. If you want to avoid this, take it slow, talk to your doctor and you'll get the best experience.

At the end of the day it is expected that you will be tired but you should try to get some exercise done and you will feel better. There are certain accounts where we have to call people out on, such as your body does have a natural circadian cycle. If you are working out early in the morning and your body is telling you it is too early just give it some time to adjust. Your mind is the one that is tired and resistant, but once you break through your resistance and do some exercise after work your body will have more energy. It's a fact that there are many truths and falsehoods in just about every area of fitness. Physical exertion often has specific fallacies attached to it while other areas may have general statements too. Take the time to get to know what you are doing before you take off on a new exercise expedition.
