It is always painfully exasperating when you need to shake hands with total strangers, especially so, with sweaty hands. The worry that you may cause embarrassment to yourself and the other party, or that you might convey the impression that you lack confidence with sweaty palms could further aggravate your hand sweating. Then there is the much dreaded job interviews, whereby you need to complete the hand written application form smudging it with sweat in the process, and shake hands with a panel of interviewers. Yes, you have palmar hyperhidrosis and I shall being sharing with you a simple approach to stop sweaty palms, just like I did.
But first, we need to define the type of sweaty hands you have. If your hand sweating only works up whenever you get excited from an impending important activity or event, then the treatment is very simple and easily available as you are only suffering for mild case of palmar hyperhidrosis. There are medicated powders, AICI creams and even deodorants for your problem. Get something handy that you could carry around with you, and is colorless and odorless so that it is not obvious. That said, you should still check with the pharmacist to confirm the appropriateness of the applications. Still more people tend to go for alternative treatments to stop sweaty palms such as biofeedback, acupuncture, meditation, hypnosis etc. However, the effects of these treatments have not been clinically proven and the results are subjective at best.
When you seek more intense palmar hyperhidrosis treatments you need to bear in mind the side effects that might come along with it.
If you are experiencing excessive hand sweating to the extent of dripping, you will need stronger treatments like Botox, ETS surgery, or Iontophoresis. All these three provide either temporary or long term solution to help you stop hand sweating. But the they do come with repercussions in varying degrees. Botox is a temporary measure to control the sweat flow and requires follow up sessions every three to six months with temporary numbness on the palms after each treatment and the effect tend to wear off over time. ETS surgery puts an immediate stop to your excessive hand sweating but 90 percent of patients also develop compensatory sweating on their torsos, face, underarms, groin or feet. This is has created a whole new set of problems for the patients.
Then there is the Iontophoresis treatment which since its debut more than 50 years ago, it has been tested and proven to stop sweaty palms. It is non surgical, non invasive and has no side effects. The process take a daily routine of 20 minutes by immersing your palms into separate trays of tap water connected to the Iontophoresis device. You are expected to feel a marked difference in dry palms. Thereafter, it is simply maintaining the level of dryness with one session every three weeks.
If the thousand dollar machine is a major cost issue to you, you can always make your own iontophoresis device under 20 dollars and yet it can still be as functional and effective.
So stop procrastinating and start checking out the right treatment to stop sweaty palms, you are meant for greater things in life and should never be constrained by a mere pair of sweaty hands.
