When it comes to staying healthy, we all know precisely how important it is to take in enough Vitamin C. Everybody is always talking about just how much Vitamin C might help a person. What's the very first thing you're told if you get a cold? "Eat some Vitamin C!" Now, though, there is a small bit of speculation about whether or not Vitamin C is actually beneficial in preventing the common cold.

You've likely already been told about Echinacea. The plan is that, if you take an Echinacea health supplement as soon as you feel a cold setting in, you can keep it from really grabbing hold of you. Not too long ago, however, studies have confirmed that Echinacea provides little more than a placebo effect for anyone suffering from cold and flu symtoms. At most the product cuts the cold's length by 20 hours. That's barely a cure.

So just what do you do to keep the colds out? Here are some suggestions which should assist you.

1. Wash the hands. Wash both hands often. This is just about the best way that you can keep a cold from setting in. Why does this method perform as well as it does? Give it some thought. Your hands may get contact with flu and cold germs than any other part of your body. Have you ever considered everything you touch throughout the day? Every time you touch an item or surface that has been touched by someone who is struggling with the flu or a cold, your chances of getting sick are increased. If you are cleansing your hands frequently, it is unlikely that any of the millions of cold and flu microbes you make contact with each day will work their way in to your system.

2. Get yourself a large amount of rest. Staying up late might be incredibly tempting, particularly when your life is tense. You would like to get far more work done. Maybe you would like to go out with your pals. There's a show you would like to watch. Doing this, on the other hand, significantly reduces the rest you receive. Your body needs to get a good amount of rest so that it has enough energy to fight off infection. When you are catching your zzz's and asleep the body has a chance to do maintenance and make repairs. The more rest you get, the easier it's going to be for the body to ward off infection and get rid of it before it really has a chance to latch on.

3. Make sure you are correctly hydrated. Your entire body requires at least eight eight ounce glasses of h2o every day to be healthy. Your body demands the hydration to help it get rid of the waste that have taken up residence in your system. If you haven't been correctly hydrated the germs in your system will just hang out and get tougher instead of being forced out. Remember: it is possible to last for about seven days without needing to take in more solid food. Without h2o, you will only last a day or two. That alone should remind anyone how essential it is to stay hydrated.

The thing is: there is absolutely no mysterious cure for the common cold. What you can do, however, is practice common sense, wash your hands a lot, get enough rest each night and stay properly hydrated.
