We all realize that one of the best foods for our diets are lean meats, whole grains and healthy fats. These would be the foods that will give us the energy and protein we need. They keep our bodies nutritionally healthy with minimal calories while we work hard to burn off our fat at the gym. Are you aware, however, that a few of the foods you've been thinking are fine for your diet plan could actually be making you retain weight? They might be even adding fat laden calories to your body! Check out some of the food items that might be helping you to accidentally sabotage your diet.

Sports Drinks aren't helping you whatsoever. You've probably been thinking that the sports drink is the easiest way to help your whole body feel greater after a workout. Many medical professionals agree, however, that if your training is less than ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks could totally undermine your diet program because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Instead, have a shot at drinking some chocolate milk. Your body uses the sugar inside the chocolate for muscle tissue repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.

Skip your protein shakes. Lots of people believe that protein shakes may be used in place of meals and to curb cravings between meals. What you are actually doing, particularly if the majority of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. Contrary to popular belief, protein doesn't get kept as muscle, it gets stored as fat. This means that if you have already ingested too much protein that day, your system will simply store what it doesn't need in your fat cells and that doesn't help you lose weight or inches of your waist line at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't really healthy at all. It's typically believed that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread and lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat is loaded full of preservatives and about a third of your suggested daily sodium intake. This can be particularly risky if you are at risk for heart disease. Instead of choosing deli meat, pick home prepared chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you are going to pay more money for these choices but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are lots of things that we think are much healthier than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask a medical expert which things are the finest to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you pay attention and are careful about which kind of food you let yourself eat, losing weight isn't going to be a terribly big deal.
