All on 4 dental implants is a new form of permanent dentures as opposed to removable dentures. It was invented by Portuguese dental doctor, Doctor Pablo Malo. This new form of fixed denture is exceptionally radical because of the drastic reduction in both time and cost from conventional fixed denture.

What are permanent and removable dentures?

Permanent dentures are fixed in the mouth through the use of implants, usually in between 6 and 10 depending on how many teeth need replacing. Generally speaking it is Old Age Pensioners who need multiple artificial teeth and because of the price of permanent dentures, must resort to using cheaper, removable dentures. Permanent dentures are more expensive because of the amount of time the procedure takes to apply them; it also takes a large amount of time for the mouth to fully heal, which is another reason why, up until now, removable dentures have been the most popular choice.

Why should I use All On 4 Dental Implants

The All on 4 dental implant is different to usual permanent dentures as the angle of the implants is different, pointing at a 45 degree angle, the implants are rooted into stronger bones closer to the front of the mouth, meaning less implants are needed. Because fewer implants are needed the procedure is less time consuming (usually taking only one dental visit of around two and a half hours) and the recovery time is reduced greatly, where as it could take multiple months to heal if conventional, permanent dentures were used. The reduction in the number of implants used results in the entire procedure being dramatically cheaper also and can be up to half as expensive as normal dentures, depending on the bone quantity and quality towards the front of the mouth.

I've had problems with getting fixed dentures, will the All On 4 Dental Implants be the same?

Most people who are not applicable for permanent dentures are not because a lack of bone structure in the mouth for the implants to be rooted into. The all on 4, as previously mentioned, uses less implants and roots them closer to the front of the mouth, on the front jaw. This gives access to more and stronger bone structure to be used. Roughly 80% of people who have been rejected for other fixed dentures can use the all on 4.

Have there been any problems?

The procedure seems almost perfect: shorter to apply and cheaper than conventional permanent dentures and more convenient than removable dentures. Because they are easier to apply and have a shorter heal rate some dentists are turning a deaf ear to the risks that come with the dentures, and there are risks. The all on 4 dental implant has a higher chance of failing than many other permanent dentures. It has also been found by Doctor Arthur Chal -a doctor of dentistry who is very highly respected and regarded in his field- that along with this higher fail rate, if there is a problem with a single implant, the angle of the implant means that the entire procedure would need to be removed and redone. Because of this it is highly recommended that you think long and hard before deciding on which denture choice to pick and that you seek a highly skilled and well qualified dentist to perform the operation.
