Over the course of our lives, our body experiences a number of traumatic events. This might range from having to undergo a complicated medical procedure to a broken bone being fixed over the course of a few weeks or months. This is not exactly the most pleasant of times for anybody who experiences this and can prove to be a miserable time for all involved. However there are some incidents in our lives which are not quite as extreme as the aforementioned ones, but one such medical problem which can cause a number of health issues is if your teeth start to crack. Let's face it; the sight of cracked teeth is not exactly pleasant to look at. Thankfully, help is at hand which can dramatically improve the health of your teeth.

What are the ways in which my teeth can crack?

One way in which teeth can crack is named "cracked teeth". This is when the crack itself runs from the tooth's surface down towards the root. This doesn't mean that the tooth is in two parts but the soft tissue which is found in the inner part of the tooth might be damaged. A second way in which this can happen, according to this article, is called "craze lines". Affecting the outer enamel of the teeth, they are quite common in adult teeth but this doesn't require any treatment. A third way is what the article calls a "cracked cusp". A cusp is the pointed part of the tooth's biting surface and when this happens to your tooth this is normally identifiable when the tooth starts to hurt when biting something. The last and most painful of these cracked tooth categories is called "split tooth". The result of an untreated cracked tooth is that the tooth itself actually splits in two, hence the name.

What can cause this to happen?

According to the aforementioned article, there are a number of ways which any of the above can happen. These range from extreme tooth grinding, a physical attack on the teeth itself or large fillings which can weaken the tooth.

The possibilities with treatment

By asking your dentist directly, they would be able to advise you further on the best course of treatment for the type of cracked teeth which you are suffering from. But, if you like to research a topic before asking someone for help there are a number of organisations which you can obtain information about before seeking any form of treatment. The choice of treatment which is on offer depends on the seriousness of how badly the tooth is cracked. If you require a new filling, then a new one can put in the old one's place. If the tooth requires something more than just a filling, a crown might be required in order to resolve the issues but if the tooth is split then it might need removing and being replaced with an artificially created one.

The future for my teeth

No matter how serious your teeth are cracked, the chances that they could be fixed by visiting your dentist and asking them what they reckon the best course of action is or maybe researching the subject/s on the internet could give you the first steps towards resolving your dental issues. No matter how bad your predicament is, by taking those initial steps to permanently remove the dental problems which might have been plaguing your life for some time is not just in your own personal interests but also your body's as well. After all, these problems won't be fixed by themselves.
